Time to replace – Signs that you need to replace your boiler
There is never a good time to be left with a broken down boiler, especially not in the midst of a difficult winter. It’s well worth making yourself aware of the signs that your boiler needs replacing to avoid being caught out. Often it can work out more cost-effective to replace your boiler in time as opposed to paying for costly repairs for a boiler that is on its way out anyway. It’s worth keeping in mind that a replacement is going to be much more convenient before the winter months kick in, no one wants to be left without heating in the freezing cold, It’s still better to replace the boiler before needing 24 hour boiler repair so don’t leave it until it’s too late.
Here are some tell-tale signs that it may be time to seek a replacement:
More than 10 years old
Usually, your boiler should be good for at least 10 years, but once past this, the effectiveness of your boiler will start to decline. If you start experiencing problems and the boiler is more than 10 years old, it could be an indication that its lifespan is coming to an end. Don’t wait for problems to escalate or worse for the boiler to break down completely.
Problems start creeping up on a regular basis
If you find yourself having to keep calling the plumber in for repairs or replacement parts on your boiler, there is a good chance that it’s on its way out. Minor and relatively inexpensive repairs are usually worth going ahead with, but if you find yourself with bigger and most costlier repairs, it is probably worth replacing all together. A good guide is if the cost of the repair exceeds 50% of the price of a new boiler then it’s probably time to ditch the old one.
Not heating the home up effectively
Another sign is if you find your system is not heating up your home effectively and evenly. Over time your boiler will slow down and you could find that you are wasting energy. Modern heaters generally heat the home up very quickly.
Rising heating bills
If you find that your heating bills are not making sense and have drastically increased, it could well be that you are wasting energy with an underperforming boiler. Modern boilers are much more energy-efficient and you could find yourself saving ££££ by replacing your outdated boiler.
Unusual noises
Last but not least strange clunking, rattling, popping or banging noises could also be a sign that the life of your boiler is coming to an end and it’s time to get that boiler replaced.
